You can see where a lot of left over scientists and engineers went after WWII...the German car industry...rocket science and the autobahn to boot. God, life is good behind one of these. ;)

its pretty important. they invented these things, and in a commercial promoting your company letting people know that cars as we know them are the way they are in part because of them. they are showing that they innovate rather than stick to the same old. look at a merc S-class from any year and look at the features. most of the time they become every day features in regular "non-luxury cars" 7-10 years later. CD changer, Radio, Sat Nav, steering wheel controls, nightvision HUD, to name a few

deym! i also get goosebumps when i watch this. it feels like as if mercedes-benz had planned it all along, when the first car was built. i super like this commercial!!!

DONT FORGET THE SRS AIRBAGS IN 1986

My 1985 500sel had the full SRS system - this meant piston fired seatbelt pre-tensioners timed to work w/airbag depolyment and using gold plated sensors - 15 years later lexus/toyota talks about their identical version as an "innovation".
