Thanks very much for posting this, I never dreamed it existed outside some quadruplex video reel in an archive. And wonderful to see 34051 at the head of the train. Anybody remember who did the commentary?(it's ITN footage I think, Richard Dimbleby did the BBC commentary).

The fireman on this train was a young man named Jamie Lester who is still with us today. His story of the day can be read elsewhere on the internet.

In Martin Gilbert's biography of Churchill, he told of how, as the train moved through the countryside, veterans of the war from naval men to RAF pilots climbed on to the rooves of houses so they could salute as it passed.

Not only veterans. My grandfather took me to the level crossing in Feltham to see the train as it passed through. A couple of hundred people were waiting there. All the men doffed their hats as the coffin went by. My grandfather was an out-and-out socialist, too. But I'm really glad I got to see Churchill go.
