Sony Ericsson W580 Shake Feature

I have the phone except mine is black and orange

I've just bought the phone a few hours ago, to replace a lost phone that didn't turn up after a week of searching (and was on silent at the time of its misplacement). I really like the new phone so far. But I'm holding down the walkman button and flicking it left/right and it's not switching tracks. I'm using the default songs it gives you, by the way. What am I doing wrong, or is mine just borked?
