Is this improv or was it written?

I've been trying to figure out exactly how to answer this. Webber varies little from the established melody of the song. Because of that, I guess you could say that it was "written." But I think it makes no difference if the notes Webber plays came off of a page at some point. He's put so much life into that melody that you can't call it anything but improv. Make sense? Grappelli's music is entirely unique. Couldn't be written by anyone outside of his epidermous.

Stephane is one of my favorite jazz players. I have seen him live 5 times and have a very large collection of his recordings. Go to wikipedia for a listing of some of his recordingsand story.

i wish i could have seen him play live... he was such an amazing musician..
