Video Title : MARIAN ANDERSON.1939.LINCOLN MEMORIAL.MUSICAL HISTORY! FILM.
Description : ONE OF THE MOMENTS IN MUSICAL HISTORY WHEN THE AUDIENCE, WITH PRIDE COULD SAY,"I WAS THERE" Famous appearance and performance, at the Lincoln Memorial, Washington, USA. 1939. Discreetly discussed by Eleanor Roosevelt, with a member of her husband's government, whose permssion was necessary. News commentary, and singing, 'My Country'Tis of Thee'.Same melody as our British National Anthem,'God Save the Queen'. Marian Anderson says in her autobiography that on arrival at the back door, driven in a friend's car, she walked quickly, and nervously into the memorial where she was greeted by that member of the government. She looked surreptitiously out and nearly fainted! The crowd was immense,as far as the eye could see. Her immediate response was to run to the back door and flee! However she had second thoughts, and calmed herself. Thank goodness. History was made on that day, and America should look back with pride. It's something I was told about at school, and I've never forgotten about it. I live in Scotland UK! Posted with permission from Nancy Shawcross,Curator,Penn University,Marian Anderson. On the web.

WOW!!!!!!!!! Musical History and nobody recognizes it. Like 32,000 views is an OUTRAGE!!!!!!!! LOL! this is wonderful

Thankyou.I was a mere beginner with YouTube when I uploaded these pieces on to YouTube.I felt I just HAD to do it.Best wishes from Scotland.

Marion Anderson opened the door for the Civil Rights Movement along with Jesse Owens, Joe Louis, and Paul Robeson. If you're interested in more American history, check out my profile.

This was impressive!

Beautiful performance!

What a great lady!!!!!

One of the greatest moments in Black history, and American history. It gives me goosebumps.

O,, quite agree, rusty. I just wish that I did believe in hell and an afterlife. Same applies to GWB. 750,000 Iraqi dead, 3,000 US dead, zillions of dollars wasted, and still the psychopathic Born Again Christian seeks those elusive WMDs. Ha!
