The F6F was a hell of a bird and one of our great fighter planes, But the F4FU Corsair had the greatest kill ratio at 18-1 of the planes in the pacific theater. THE Hellcat was to be replaced by the F8F Bearcat BUT the The Japanese surendered before it replaced the F6F. The P51 AND the F4U went on in service in the Korean war , and into Viet Nam as support aircraft. Alot of third world Countrys were STILL flying P-51 , P-47 , F4FU Corsairs into the late 60's.
You might mean a B-25 as in the title. A Flying Fortress is the B-17. The Avenger was a torpedo-bomber and in no way a fighter. While the Corsair was quite a plane the plane that really won the war against the Zero was the Hellcat. The same would be said of the Mustang in the European theater where it could fly all the way with the B-17's.
These planes were pretty much like the biggest aid in the war in the Pacific. Because They all could be launched from carriers, (B-24 Flying Fortress's from Doolittle raid, probably like the fastest medium bomber available), (TBM/TBF Avengers were remarkable and versatile fighter-bombers, used at midway and later on) ,(and F4U corsairs were like the P-51's of the European Theater, considerably fast and agile fighter-bombers)
