Adaptation of the 1830 French operetta Fra Diavolo by Daniel-François Auber. The English version of Fra Diavolo formed a significant part of the operatic repertoire in the United States from the late 1830s to the late 1850s.
lyrics:
On yonder rock reclining
That fierce and swarthy form behold!
Fast his hands his carbine hold,
(I)t is his best friend of old!
This way his steps inclining,
His Scarlet plum waves o'er his brow,
And his velvet cloak hangs low,
Playing in careless flow.
Tremble!
E(v)en while the storm is beating,
Afar hear Echo repeating,
"Diavolo Diavolo Diavolo!"

In the scene at the tree I hear:
On yonder rock reclining
Diavolo the bandit stands
in his hands his carbine hold,
'Tis his best friend of old!
Tremble!
E'en while the storm is beating,
Awhile hear echo repeating,
"Diavolo Diavolo Diavolo!"

In the italian version of the movie Tito Schipa sung the aria.
Awesome.
Fra Diavolo
(Italian language)
Quell'uom dal fiero aspetto
guardate sul cammino
lo stocco ed il moschetto
ha sempre a lui vicin.
Guardate un fiocco rosso
ei porta sul cappello
e di velluto indosso
ricchissimo mantel.
Tremate!
Fin dal sentiero del tuono
dall'eco viene il suono
"Diavolo, Diavolo, Diavolo."
