I use to turn black nylon on bar feed auto-capstan lathes. This has to be cut with coolant. Some time the swarf would build up around the bar end and whip the coolant pipe away allowing bits to melt on the hot cutter. The next cut would rub and heat up the bar making the next three inches unworkable.

Woodworking router tool work better on plastics than metal cutting mills. Deeper rake allows for faster feeds, bigger chip removal so more heat removal, less work hardening, so longer tool life.
