This model was designed to replace the B-36 Peacemaker. It featured all jet engines, swept wings and reached speeds close to 500 miles/hour. Only 2 were made, only one ever flew. The Boeing B-52 was favored over the YB-60 so it never went into production.

A few days ago, I met a former B-60 flight engineer. I searched you tube when i got home and couldn't find anything. Thanks for putting this on.
The YB-60 was twice the plane the B-52 was or is. More range, Payload and speed. Just goes to show you how politics kept the American public from getting the better aircraft.
Not really. The YB-52 was 100mph faster than the YB-60. It did have a smaller bomb load. But if you compare the B-52H with the YB-60 I am glad they picked the B-52 over the YB-60. The H model is a much more capable aircraft. It did come along much later. My grandfather helped design the B-36 and YB-60. As much as he liked the YB-60 it had some major problems and could not compete with the B-52. If picked, I don't think the YB-60 would have lasted like the B-52 has.
I agree. The YB-60 was just a swept-up B-36 when you got right down to it. Same fuselage, different wing, tail, nose, etc.
That was smooth. Much nicer than prop version. I wonder if the speed improved.
