Why do you believe that the timeframe for withdrawal will be insufficient to provide the training and infrastructure so that the Iraqis can protect themselves? The current plan would give us over a year to shore things up. The Iraqis themselves are asking for a date of withdrawal from us. Meanwhile, are forces in Afghanistan are in need of reinforcement. Eventually, it turns from being a matter of protecting a fledgling country to not allowing a sovereign nation to choose its own fate.

I'm not sure I see the relevance. We know that the US did not invent slavery. We also know that Lincoln, the great emancipator, was a republican. The key is, very few people alive today can remember Lincoln. But many can remember the civil rights movement, a cause endorsed by JFK and LBJ. That in itself is why substantial numbers of african americans vote Democrat these days.

I have served in the Navy, my husband is still serving. I am an anti-war liberal from Detroit, he is a good old republican from Texas. My point is that everybody has opinions.
