The Electric Company - He, Ho, Hi

Video Title : The Electric Company - He, Ho, Hi
Description : Song from the first lineup of the Short Circus: Julie (June Angela), Iris (Irene Cara), Buddy (Stephen Gustafson), Zachary (Douglas Grant) and Kathy (Melanie Henderson). I've often wondered if this song were created through some sort of clerical error. I sometimes imagine a piece of paper with some rough notes accidentally being taken off Elaine Laron's desk and delivered to Joe Raposo, and Joe writing a full song out of it, LOL!

I saw this clip on VH1 before!

Those outfits were unfortunate.

I don't know, but I think you're closer to the truth than you suspect. Sounds to me like teachers came up with this, and Joe was kind of told to "enmusikate" it - before they figured out the songs would be better if they let Joe handle the whole process himself.

The vests that Buddy and Zack wore were hideous.

It sounds like they're singing this live.

I get what they're trying to teach: that vowels have different sounds if they're at the end of the word or if there's a consonant afterwards. But this is one weeird song.

Or someone on the staff was doing a crossword puzzle and didn't finish it and Joe walked by and saw some unfinished words and thought to himself, "I can write a song." Another theory to ponder.

This was probably the 1st SC skit done.

Actually, the first piece that the Short Circus ever recorded was "Punctuation" in July of 1971, and Melanie Henderson herself has confirmed this.

If I didn't know better, I'd say The Electric Company was trying to teach kids Japanese.
