Do a search on 'Cal-Stanford "The Play to beat the Band"' and watch that 1:33 video. It CLEARLY shows that Garner's knee was down BEFORE he pitched the ball and that the last lateral was forward as the ball leaves the player's hands at the 28-yard line and Rodgers catches it at the 26-yard line. That is an ILLEGAL forward pass. The facts are that Garner's knee was down before pitching the ball and there was a forward lateral. cal lost the game. Check it out for yourself.

Any unbiased person can see that Garner's knee was down--despite this fake video--and that the final lateral left the player's hands between the 27 and 28 yard line and was caught by Rodgers at the 26. The Cal Bears won because Stanford got cocky--thinking the game was over before it actually was. And here's another thing: Stanford has some terrible clock management. If they were smarter, they would've let the game clock run down to about 2-3 seconds before they called timeout prior to kicking what otherwise would've been the winning field goal. So yes, Cal deserved to win. The loss is entirely Stanford's fault. Poor clock management: the REAL reason behind the infamy of "The Play!"
