She doesn't want people to get too swept up in the morality or legality of the teacher's act as the film centres around the characters and the consequences for themselves. Similarly you got swept up by the fact that she was telling you to do something rather than actually listening and deciding for yourself.

Totally agree. I knew as soon as I watched the clip that there would be some prick like 72seeker72 bitching about the legal and moral issues. I love how this guy is calling her a 'pompous artist', without these 'artists' there would be no films or books like this to discuss. People are so desperate to take the moral highground, because it is easier to think simplistically than use your brain.

It must have been quite delicate for them to play their characters, especially for Cate and Andrew, but they did it amazingly well, and this movie is one of my favourites!
