Awesome - thanks! I too have been up close and personal with this airframe and she was rusting and growing moss the last time I saw her. Glad to hear about the restoration!!

GREAT Post saw this airplane over at Kelly when I went through Basic at Lackland in 1966; so glad the USAF is restoring this historic Bird!!

There was only ONE built

I thought there were about 10 built (?). Used to go through the one that was on static display at Kelly AFB, San Antonio, Texas. One nice feature was that you could "walk into the wings" and work on an engine while in flight! Also, had an extremely wide flight deck. m.d. va.

kikikeywest1-
According to Wikipedia the Air Force kept the one prototype but didn't place any other orders. The prototype was on display at Kelly AFB until 2004 when it was disassembled for airlift to the USAF museum at Wright-Patterson in Ohio. So I guess that means you've been inside the very aircraft pictured in this video! I envy you! Thanks for the factiod about the walk-in wings; definitely a very cool feature.
