If only cars in the real world would completely change lanes like that to pass. From my experience when I take the lane that means the car half-changing lanes to pass me is only inches away. Very scary!

Reality vs. CVC, that is the question.

If only drivers were taught the rules of the road concerning cyclist like were taught to observe the rules for cars it would be a lot safer. I don't see why with the growing popularity of cycling to work (or in general due to gas prices) why some news networks don't due a segment on the rules of the road for both cyclist and driver. It might just save a life.

This is real-world traffic. None of this video was staged, nor did we make any effort to indicate to motorists we were shooting video. Look at the other videos we have on this channel, all of it is unstaged in real southern California traffic. We have a presentation on the CyclistView(dot)com website that shows how drivers pass cyclists as a function of their lateral lane position. It is entitled "Motorists Passing Bicyclists:
Why Bicyclist Lane Position Matters Most..."

Thank you for the extremely informative video! I do not live in the US, and I will have to look into the laws applicable. That said, this concept of "controlling the lane" is critical - because it's more important to be smart about safety than it is to be "technically correct" ... and dead.

Great Job! I agree that viewing this video (or one like it) should be manditory for obtaining or renewing a driver's license. It would be easy for the DMV link to such a video and have a person verify that they watched it by answering qestions on content. I would encourage you to make additional videos showing the dangers of being "doored" and how a driver should check and double check before opening a door into traffic. How cyclists can look ahead into the side view mirror, etc.

Great video. 5 stars. We aren't blocking traffic, we are traffic. AND this video shows how bicyclist integrate into sharing the road. Good job.

Except you only go 20 mph.

i certainly hope that the cyclists shown are on their way to their city hall in order to lobby for intelligent bike infrastructure such as segregated bike lanes, etc.
showing people videos like this will hardly increase the number of cyclists in america. the average american rides 69 km a year, compared to 1000 km a year for Danes and the Dutch.
videos like this will push that sad 69 km/year stat backwards towards zero.
thank goodness for cities like portland, oregon, inspired by europe.

I don't understand how you can confuse all cyclists with the few bad cyclists. Anyway I think you misread what I had to say. It also sounds like you think all cyclists are "good" cyclists. They are not and those are the cyclists that I was referring to. Trust me, I'm not looking for sympathy.
Please watch my video. I promise not to flame you.
