It was really audacious to adpt a waltz tempo for a detective theme but it worked like a dream and left an inprint in music !
By the way Lalo is from Argentina, parents came from Europe

Is it pronounced Laylo or Larlo? I am not sure, I am English. Either way he is a great Hungarian composer, who has produced the best classic theme tunes of American TV.

GREEEEEAAAATTT!!!! I remember this when it was broadcasted in Italy many years ago! WHAT A FUCKING KICKASS JAZZ MUSIC!!!
|
Awesome! I remember this when I was kid. I always loved these 60s/early70s "commercial" jazz tunes. This one is special. Beautiful harmonies. There is a version of ot with many more addeed instruments like mute trumpet responses in the first phrase of thge main sax motif. No piano solo, but strings/horns come in. That newer version doesn't have much of the jazzy feel of this one. The studio perhaps had an orchestrator coming in to "beef up" the original for a later season. Still great music!

Crime dramas from the 60's & 70's had some kick-ass theme music ever since Henry Mancini started the trend back in '58 with Peter Gunn.

excuse my french, but fuck-ing A!
Thanks man!

that's fantastic!!! I was listening to other versions here in youtube, but this one is really AMAZING. So much detail of every instrument and of course the early 70's as little kid in front of my b/w tv waiting for the opening credits just to hear the music are here(all this back in Chile). Thanks viniljunkie, thanks.
