Lee Morgan was the most musical soloist, in addition to all those super cool bends--my favorite, hands down. I agree, you can tell it's him right from the first note.

You can tell it's Lee Morgan with just one note. He is so distinctive, funky, bluesy and amusing. Fantastic. I heard he was shot offstage by his mistress after an argument, he gave her his gun and said shoot me and unfortunately for jazz, she did.

londonchops:He was appearing in one of his favorite clubs, Slug's Saloon. He gave his wife Helen his gun to hold but he was planning to leave her for another woman who was also there and Helen knew it. She killed him on the bandstand that night in Feb.1972 Slugs closed down as a result of this incident.
