4 channels means there are 4 moving parts to control the plane. In this plane, there are four channel that controls the steering, rudder, elevator, throttle. The original version of this plane is a thrust vectoring w/c means you control the direction of the plane by reducing the rotation of one motor to steer it left or right

How did you attach landing gear and convert it to 3 channel. Is this one of those 100 dollar chinese models?

We use gws landing gear, we place 3 servos, for taxi front nose gear, rudder control, elevator....
We also installed brushed esc & wFLY receiver on it
