The last of the big Packards..the following year, they would still be making them, but they were thinly disguised Studebakers. Note the Ultramatic transmission, controlled electronically by pushbuttons on the pod. This car has an air conditioner..Packard was the first to have air conditioning in the late 30's..note the evaporator is in the trunk, and the conditioned air is blown through the wand coming up from the parcel shelf behind the back seat. This car is a fitting testimony to the luxury and innovation that were Packard.

Beautiful car! Thanks for the video. I had the good luck to have ridden in a Packard just about like this one when I was a kid. It was my uncle's and what I remember most about it was that it had some kind air or hydraulic mechanism that raised and lowered the car somehow. It was so weird to me at the time.
I have a beautiful 1951-52 packard for sale, 15000 obo. contact me for details. In the okanagan, BC
I'm not in the market myself, but in case anyone is interested, I'll leave this up! Thanks! :) Jack
Thanks so much Jack, it really is a great car and I'd love to see it go to a nice home, it was my Grandpa's pride and joy :) Much appreciated!
The big Packards were such special and super silent (the machine) like a Rolls. I miss them and the noble trade mark like I miss here in Europe Facel Vega and Borgward. I had the impression that Americans with style and "old
money" had them. The new rich had Cadillacs. Very special was the Caribean. Bit sad because I miss these old trade marks really, a bit like old friends who died.... Pardon, that´s not my kind but ATM I had it a bit... ha ha
Till next time. Your old mate. Peter
That's so very true, Peter! The Packards and the Dusenbergs, the Pierce Arrows, and to some degree the Lincolns were the cars of the "old moneyed" people. The "new rich" had the Cadillacs! It is such a shame that Packard got caught up in that nightmarish merger with Studebaker. It will go down as one of the biggest blunders in the automotive field in the 20th century! Likewise, GM giving the venerable Olds the axe was another totally stupid thing to do! Thanks as always for your comment! :) Jack
Nice colors,in and out.The exhaust out the corners of the bumper ended up on other cars too.
Absolutely, Brian! Exhaust in the bumpers was at trend at the time, though it wasn't very practical with exhaust staining. It was a sad day when Packard bit the dust..a proud marque, no longer with us..the passing of a giant, with a whimper! Thanks for the comment!
:) Jack
I believe my wife and I were following a Chevy with that kind of exhaust once.First she asked,"Is that the exhaust coming out the bumper?" Then said,"That's not a bad idea." Then asked,"Doesn't that get the bumper all dirty?" Well, yeah, just like the diesel exhaust gets the back ends of MBZ's all dirty.
Your wife was observant on that one, Brian...she saw the flaw in the design. Good example of the stylists who needed to get out in the shop more, to see how things worked out! Thanks for the comment! :) Jack
