| Total BS. The offer was not to buy the truck for 500 bananas, it was to get a rebate for 500 bananas, something any smart dealer would do in a heartbeat since bananas cost much less than a dollar per pound at the time.

It's a shortened version of Pick UP.
But it does seem like a pretty stupid name, but consider that old nissan trucks were called Hardbody if they were regular cabs, and Toyota Tacomas are often called Tacos. |
