What ever happened to these things? I want to see ads like this for McCain or Obama
Maybe I'm seeing history through rose-colored glasses, but it seems that, back then, while we had differing ideas about how best to move the country forward, we still felt that we were all playing on the same team.
Now, demonization is the name of the game. I feel truly sorry for the younger generations who have no memory of that unity of purpose that we Americans enjoyed in the two decades following the end of World War II.
God, I long for the days when political ads could be so positive and upbeat. Sure, it's short on substance, but I think the attitude back then was to save the substance for speeches, interviews and debates. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe either JFK or Nixon ran negative ads against the other -- at least nothing too harsh. And 4 years earlier, the big ad campaign was simply "I like Ike".
