To me, Ornette coleman is sometimes very funny, sometimes very evil, sometimes just talking into a saxophone.

carrootjazz; don't you mean he's the god of comedy jazz
sonikitty: So really what you're saying that it's comedy jazz..it's meant to make us laugh.'co that's my reaction to it
I don't think Ornette "meant" to have any specific reation to include laughter, but if you want to laugh go ahead and laugh, but I would hope you are laughing at the joyous nature of the music and NOT some judgmental laughing AT the music.
sonikitty: but surely you're not telling me what my reaction to OC should be, no matter what it is..that's totally against the idea of avant garde & free jazz. If you are telling me that, then you must be a jazz nazi posing as a libertine... I hope not
Nope. Not telling you what your reaction should be at all, just HOPING that you yourself are not yet another jazz nazi, groveling at the feet of Wynton Marsalis. Laugh with or laugh at Ornette's music. The universe will still spin. Just not around The Stanley Crouch's of the world!! LOL
