It is fake. This was written in the New York Times as well.
SciFi was getting many letters, about the footage saying "WAS IT REAL? OMG!".
SciFi channel started to get in kind of a trouble with those letters, so they had to send an article to NYT, that "This was filmed in NY, yes, but the UFO is fake. It's simple CGI animation".
SciFi pointed out CLEARLY on their website (When releasing this video) that the UFO is fake. But looks like humans are stupid enough, not to read the text...
Obviously fake. It was done as a promotional thing the Sci-Fi channel was doing. They did a few others like it, too.
