Man, her voice was awesome back then! Plus, she could hear soooo very well...nearly perfect pitch, tone, piano playing, and very power lungs! This is the best rendition of BRIDGE OVER TROUBLE WATER that was ever recorded. These are some of the many reasons, she still get's soooo many props today. Her numerous awards are even more proof, of her decades of major achievements in entertainment.
Long Live Ree!!!!!!!!

An original pioneer of music. thats why shes called the Queen. No one will ever be good enough to match aretha. no one. GENIUS!!
I was reading the lyrics to this song and realised Aretha's version is a little different. She never sings the 1st verse and has changed a few words and added some. This is why its her song, brings a tear to my eye when she says 'see how they shine, if you ever need a friend, look around i'm sailing right behind' such emotion! She inspired me to play the piano as she was the 1st Black female artist i'd ever seen playing. Theres no one else...
Amazing. But who's playing the Hammond B3? I need to know. He does a FANTASTIC job here. Can it be B.Preston?
do you know what the drawbar settings were that he was using? I've love that sound, but i've never been able to replicate it...
I am not 100 % sure, but if I am not completely wrong, he has the 8" drawbar all the way out, chorus1/2/3 on, leslie on full speed(the gear on the top rotor is set to "slowest" or so it sounds to me, and pulls out the 1" on the refrain. and he uses the exp pedal like it was a woman. That is the secret, I believe. He really makes love to that organ, don' he!
yeah he does! thank you so much!
:-)..or , since I've been trying this out myself now, I Rather believe that he puts on the 2" drawbar, NOT the 1", and he might just be spicing up the 8" drawbar with a dash of 4" pulled out to 1. But otherwise I T H I N K (still not sure) those settings are very similar to his. I do not know what kind of leslie amp he uses, either, or how it was mic'ed on this very recording. Which is, btw, completely wonderful.
