The case for a popularly-elected, non-executive Head of State, able to exercise moral and constitutional influence without actually having to govern, is hereby made beyond controversy. The Queen of the UK has done nothing of any use compared to the achievements of Mary Robinson; but then, Queeny never had to work, to study, or to get elected!

Mary Robinson has been involved in virtually every single important piece of social equality legislation in Ireland since the seventies. To suggest that she left the Presidency for more money is ridiculous.She could have stayed in office for another seven years and retired comfortably if personal gain was her aim. Instead she chose another challenge in the promotion of human rights. She owes Ireland or Irish women nothing;we are in her debt. I am so proud that she has been our President.

Oh my god seanodor...did you listen to anythng that was said? she left only weeks before her fixed term of 7 years was normally due to end. Only a fool would think it was about PAY? She has acheaved so much not least for Ireland. Ireland for ever.

she resigned before her term in office was over to take a much better paying job with the un. so much for her love of the irish people. keep talking shit mary the rest of the world have not copped on to you yet. ireland for ever.

i'm sorry but that's the most foolish thing i've ever heard anyone say. mary robinson is possibly the greatest irish person who has ever lived. she's the greatest representative that we as a people have ever sent out onto the world stage. and because she loves ireland and the irish people so much she knows where we come from and the crap we've come through and recognises that there are still peoples in the world going through the same thing. helping and bringing attention to them is her mission.

GO MARY!!! I hope I get to travel to Ireland one day, people used to tell me the Berbers have Irish roots. HMMMMMM =) and I love the voice!
