Why is it so much harder over there?

It just requires more of the candidates. A UK driver could have an amazing test for 40 minutes, make one mistake in the last five, and they would fail. For example if you hesitated too long at a roundabout when it was your right of way, you would fail. Lol, they're gonna make it harder as well. Put it this way, the best qualified road drivers in the world upon passing (this is not my opinion, but a widely accepted view) are first of all the Swedish. Then we have Germany, Japan and the UK.
