actually, the star trek ships use lasers and crap, maybe phazers- but I honestly don't know the difference. Star wars ships use primarily plasma weaponry. I would have to guess the Enterprise uses plasma for shielding. I'm not really sure what a laser or phaser would do to plasma shielding, but if anyone could elaborate...

The Feds have not been cruising around the universe, the Feds are cruising around just a small part of the galaxy... Also the Galactic Empire is much, much bigger then any Empire in Star Trek like you said they have the galaxy! Also the Empire and Republic have cool looking German/Swiss uniforms.

To camper it: Star Trek ships are more like huge gunboats wile Star Destroyer are like battleships or aircraft carriers next to each other. Star Destroyer has about 35000 crewmembers, Star Trek ships have about 2000 to little over 5000 crew members.

Star Trek ships act more or less like a huge gunboat or a big fighter. The Star Destroyer is a battleship/aircraft carrier and often act like them. The Star Destroyer has 8 or 10 main gun turrets. It dos not have to tern to shoot... As well as can fire ions and deferent types of torpedoes...

TEI fighters do not have to come that close to fight, they can lunch torpedoes and missiles as well if need it to. (Hit and run tactics...) The Star Destroyer has heavy shields and very heavy armor as well...
