Not for food they don't. Most human killings have happened in captivity. Only one happened in the wild and it was a mistake. A Transient thought a surfer looked like a seal from below. Classic case of mis-identification. The man lived and only had to get a few stitches on his leg.

Actually, you can't say that Orcas will hunt anything. Because, that's implying that you think that about ALL Orcas and it doesn't. There are three different races of Orca. Resident who eat only fish. You see them in sea world. Transients eat other marine mammals. And there's not much known about off shores yet. They were discovered as recently as the 90s. So, Orcas will not eat or hunt anything. You can't discribe them as a whole because, each race is completely different.

It's a fact of life. Transients eat other marine mammals to survive.

I find the reaction of most of the people on the boats pathetic. Killing other marine mammals is part of who a transients is. It's how they survive and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. Life in the wild can be cruel and harsh but, that's the way it is. Nobody should think badly of a transient orca for doing things it was born to do and naturally does. They aren't cruel.

Credentials weren't offered for the majority of people interviewed here. I have never seen a Biologist or Naturalist get stirred-up over predator-prey relations (until now). Anyways, thank you for posting.
