Jerry Lucas finished his NBA career with 14053,and John "Hondo" Havlicek with 26395. So, they combined for 40448. Which got me to thinking: which two college teammates combined for the most points in NBA history. The obvious first guess would be to pick a UCLA player who teamed with Jabbar (Alcindor). Lucious Allen, who played with Alcindor on the great 1968 team, finished his NBA career with 9407 pts. So, together, these two Bruin teammates combined for 38387 + 9407 = 47794 pts.
Just thought of another pair of teammates: Worthy (16320) and Jordan (32292), who both played for North Carolina in 1982. That's a total of 48612. That puts them slightly ahead of Alcindor/Allen. That North carolina team also featured Sam Perkins, who ended his career with over 15,000 points. Do you think Dean Smith had enough talent there?
One more. University of Houston. Drexler (22195) and Olajuwon (26946) for a combined 49141. That puts them ahead of both Alcindor/Allen and Jordan/Worthy.
Glad to see Lucas remembered, he truly was one of the greats at every level. Maybe soon we'll see some of his All-Pro NBA footage.
