Coral Reefs are destroyed being by Sunscreen chemicals, NOT global warming. Check google for research articles and tell your friends!
Coral reefs are being destroyed by a lot of things including global warming and chemicals in lotions overall and people touching corals when they dive and the biggest threats are trawling, cyanide fishing and industrial runoff.
Here's something very interesting I saw first hand at Mote Marine Lab's here on Summerland Key. They are growing new coral. They take coral from where ships run aground and break it off for the regrowth. They constantly handle it. They cut it into thin horizontal pieces with a tile saw. They then use aquarium underwater puddy and stick it onto a rock or concrete or a bottle or whatever. The coral grows from the piece. So all this fluff about not touching the coral is just fluff.
Corals grow extremely slow and the water quality in the oceans are becoming poor so it's hard for a small bud of coral to take hold. Yes, many coral propagate very easy. Especially soft coral. Cut 'em up into pieces and the pieces that heal will grow into individuals, but they need to heal and then grow. Those who handle coral professionally generally use a special slime coating on their hands or on the coral to protect the coral's flesh from the acids on our hands. DIVERS DON"T DO THIS!!
