1970 Chevrolet Camaro

For graduation from high school in 1970, my dad gave me the down payment for my 1970 Camaro. I ordered one from our local Chevy dealer in EL Paso. Took 12 long weeks to build and ship and was brought in on a train from Van Nuys, California. Wish I still had that car... Gold, with a spoiler, center console and such a magnet for girls. Ahhh those were the days.

That must've been the most exciting thing ever, finally getting that car.

I was about to turn 18 years old and every day, I rode my motorcycle down to the train yard (for weeks) and one day there it sat, unloaded behind a massive chain link fence. You simply can't imagine what a feeling that was. 11 moths later, I was off to Vietnam, sold the Camaro and have regretted it all these 38 years! Gawd, I miss that gold Camaro!

Wow - bittersweet to say the least. Whoever says material things don't matter just doesn't get it!

I'm an arthritic old man these days, but I'd gladly take the pain of getting into and out of a 70 Camaro again now that I'm about to turn 57. That 70 Camaro (to me) was at the time the most radical looking car to come out of Detroit in it's day. Still is a very classy looking car. I'd die to show up at my 40th high school reunion in a 70 gold Camaro. What a hoot that would be.

Oh, and I have to say that waiting 12 WEEKS (for a guy 17 going on 18 WAS AN ETERNITY.) I was part of the "want it now" generation.

The 1970's Camaros were the best!
