More on the Volt: http://www.myride.com/snacker-environment/2011_chevy_volt_everything_you_want_know-649-page1.html?id=31123
The 2011 Chevrolet Volt represents a direction for GM, and maybe you guessed by the name, one that is focused on electricity. In fact, although technically a hybrid, the Chevy Volt uses only electric power to move the wheels. For trips up to 40 miles, the Volt is powered by electricity stored in its lithium-ion battery. When the battery's energy is depleted, a gasoline/E85-powered engine works as a electrical generator to provide power the Volt's electric drive unit.

i love this car, so futuristic. The biggest thing that will slow are journey into the future are people who don't like change and people who aren't willing to change. But it is important that we logically choose the right kinds of change.
I'm a Ford guy at heart, but this is a very admirable and GIGANTIC effort from General Motors.
the evolution of electric vihicles could be faster but gasoline companies don't let the car companies to improve their ideas. Like it or not, the future is electric....
I might C the Volt @ the 2010 Tampa International Auto Show.
eh looks to asian for me lol.
screw those chong chong sushi mobiles, I dont want a stuck gas pedal, Ill take the new and quality improved american option.
Young, dumb and full of shit while I still can! Learn too spot trolling when you see it. Otherwise you'll spend all that time trying to insult/prove a point that doesn't even matter.
They should make a car that can run on electric power for 60 miles, uses diesel, and charges the battery when you use the brakes like a hybrid. They should make the car bigger and less expensive.
My dad drove an electric truck forone of the shipping comp. in the early 60s in manhattan!
Replacement demand from gas driven cars to electric vehicles across the developed nations will easily surpass the current production abilities of Toyota, Honda, and Nissan combined.
If the fuel price gets twice, here I will have no choice but buying an electric car, and when I buy one, I want more than a few cars to choose from.
Competition always makes cars better.
I'm pretty sure that when this car takes off, it will set a standard for the fuel-generated electric vehicles.

GM Chevron screwed us all by Killing the EV1 and the NiMH battery in 2000.
If GM does sell a Hybrid car in 2011 screw them, buy from somebody else, Honda, Toyota or Nissan
@USA4July1776 So true...Hey like I said before, they should have just kept the price fair and produced what the population wanted. When you try screwing the customers...fellow Americans no less, it doesn't do the company any good.
@felony1175,
Exactly, these idiots made me wait 3 long years, when the Camaro finally came out, the interior was made of cheap plastics and was plain ugly (you'd think they'd pull their shit together in that time), they sold their cars $20,000 above sticker price looking down their noses as if they were too good for their customers... the whole experience oozed incompetence, dysfunction and amateurism. HUGH!
Heck, look at the Volt, it already looks dated and it's supposed to be brand new!
I agree, I used to love some of the cars and trucks, but then management lost their way. It's a damn shame, but what did if for me was the super high cost to buy the Camaro and the waiting list. You would think they would open more factory lines for a popular car and not be greedy, but of course that never happened.
I have nothing against GM from the onset, it's simply that they have just turned me off with their arrogance, low-quality, mismanagement... and going socialist was the last straw for me.
Back in 2006, when I first saw the Camaro in Transformers, I was ready to buy one... then came the long wait -3 years- an eternity in the car industry, where the car just got old. Then I finally saw it and the interior plastics were like a cheap toy.
I've become totally disgusted with "Government Motors."
@felony1175,
No kidding, besides the naysayers who are probably either part of the UAW or somehow benefit from a government-subsidized GM, Ford just sold more cars than GM for the first time in decades, Ford sales went up 43% to GM's 12%... Why? Because Americans already own part of GM against their will, through tax-money used by the Democrats to take it out of the private market and into the hands of beuraucrats and socialist-unions.
Why would I pay twice for a car I don't want?
I know Chevy is trying, but lets go already...they are taking way to long to get things to the market. P.S. - I hate on-star...GM no one gives a fuck about on-star...put actual nav. screens in your damn cars already! Its 2010!!!
What's Un-american" about paying cheaper wages for work? You're own grandpa probably had a black slave. Not to mention the mexicans now working dirt cheap. Sounds to me like the definition of "American". Wake up man the world's changing get used to it. Why do you care if a man finds employment in another country, don't be so selfish.
@masscashstacks,
Thanks for exposing your vile prejudices... I'm hispanic, atheist and in my late twenties... sorry for bursting your absurd caricatures to bits.
If someone needs to die, it's you, but given that you're a degenerate, you're probably well on your way ;-)
Your a nut."socialist government and leftist unions"-Sounds like a quote straight out of rush limbaughs mouth
Truth is youre brain washed of whacko right wing Fox News, Mike Savage,Beck,Oreily, Hannity and Bill Cuttingham.-the real gangster millionaires.
I dont think you understand the progressive idea,it isnt about big government or small government. Its about building a smarter government that focuses on what works.
I'm from an old steel town and i seen the effects of losing big industry
Nissan Leaf or Chevy Volt? What do you think is better?
GM (Goverment Motors), is a totally shit, poor quality, all vehicles look the same, rebadged gm strategy sucks
GM sucks
Who are the hippies and other leftists? Oh, that's right, the "old' baby boomers who are set to retire!
That's right, chabitz, your youthful arrogance sounds familiar, kind of like the Hitler Youth or the Chinese Cultural Revolution... you're young, dumb and full of shit.
