Sixes begin pursuit of wayward "Vindicators". It's also not clear that the writers intended to imply precisely that F-106's were being used here. They were limited to whatever stock footage they could get. In fact, at other times in the movie, F-104's are seen as the attacking fighters. The "Vindicators" are represented with B-58's and even F-100's (with their bombs doubling as engines).
