y cnt ppl realize that the dodge cummins is the best vehicle ever!!!!!!!!
well first of all you need a hell lot of equipment to get it to go this fast...and it isn't the prettiest thing in the world to be honest.
I mean come on...it's got power but how can you score chicks with a car associated with construction or farming or whatever...
highest diesel on a dyno is 1374, once again, competely new type of performance... this guy is just starting to turn up his truck, i can garuantee over 1500hp by the end of 2008...
come back and talk to me about that in 10 years... diesel performance just starter getting big in 2002.... i think getting into the 6s within 6 years is pretty good.... and that's with a pickup truck motor... no purpose built race motor...
I guarantee you that everything outside of the block in those 6 and 7 second diesel drag trucks is purpose built race parts. Pistons, crank, turbos, connecting rods, especially when they're spinning 6500 RPM, fuel system, ignition, everything would need to be built up and changed out. If you put a stock truck motor in one of those it would probably run 12's. And I bet that if diesel ever gets popular, the top racers will start using racing blocks. Probably already filling the blocks. No coolant.
haha the cummins engines have a lot left in em man, they're nowhere near done up as any drag racing gasser is!! the highest rpms i've ever heard out of any diesel was 5600 in banks' duramax, well i mean highest i've heard of any diesel that does it consistently, not just a one time thing, but anyway point is, these guys are just starting to figure out how to build up these blocks... and i don't think those dragsters' engines are as built as you think they are....
Just checked the magazine, it's a 5000 RPM redline, not 6500. My mistake. Either way you'd need new rods for that out of a diesel and pistons to hold under high (100 psi+) boost. Dragster engines in top fuel would progress, but the NHRA has limited the intake size, so progress can't move on. They were getting too fast, much like NASCAR. Now they're shortening the distance in drag racing too. I'd like to see a 500ci diesel engine spin to 8900 RPM with 60 PSI of blower boost...would be pretty cool
yeah i definitely see what you're saying and i know that gas engines are obviously at the forefront at this moment, but give it a couple more years and that'll change, diesels are much more reliable, have a built in tendancy for high torque (yes i know some can argue that any gas engine revving low will have twice the torque as horsepower), and LOVE being boosted to death... the top diesel guys out there are still only using modified heads off a stock 5.9 commonrail cummins haha
