Games can run just fine on Linux and Mac (actually they usually run better then on windows). The problem is that since Windows has the monopoly most games are made exclusively for it. So if you want to play those games on a Mac or Linux system you usually need an emulator and thus the game will slow down. I am not much of a gamer these days but if I compare Doom 3 on Ubuntu to Vista (same machine), the Ubuntu always gets better frame rates since the system uses less resources.

how come games cant run very well in mac and linux if windows can do it why cant they??

Crysis even runs (laggy)
Wine is better than you think
YOU CAN PLAY GAMES ON IT.?
You can play certain game on Linux. but, if you talking about games like Call of Duty, not really. For right now you will still need Windows to play high end games.
Call of duty 1-4 run in Wine
there are to many bug to play recent game in Winehq. I guarantee the game you mention are not in gold status. I will not pay 50 dollars for a game to play in wine.
Actually, Call of duty 1 and 2 are platinum.
Call of Duty 4 is Gold. Go look for yourself.
Watch my video of Call of Duty 4 in Wine, it runs fine
you right! but gold requires configuration. for a new user for Linux that might not seem desirable. they may want to Cedega or CrossOver games ( by codeweaver).

Yeah if you're a hardcore gamer, then you should stick with Windows. But for people like me who only occasionally play games and enjoy tweaking things to improve performance, Linux is fine.
