Sometimes three males form a tightly bonded trio. On the death of his partner, a male may spend a long time searching for a new male companion—usually unsuccessfully, since most other males in the community are already paired and will not break their bonds. If, however, he can find another "widower" whose male partner has died, the two may become a couple... The lives of male Bottlenose Dolphins are characterized by extensive bisexuality, combined with periods of exclusive homosexuality. As adolescents and young males, they have regular homosexual interactions in all-male groups, sometimes alternating with heterosexual activity. From age 10 onward, most male Dolphins form pair-bonds with another male, and because they do not usually father calves until they are 20-25 years old, this can be an extended period—10-15 years—of principally same-sex interaction. Later, when they begin mating heterosexually, they still retain their primary male pair-bonds, and in some populations male pairs and trios cooperate in herding females or in interacting homosexually with Spotted Dolphins. It's nice to know you believe that love and marriage is based on sex. It's pretty explicitly stated that the paired dolphins take part in "homosexual activity" and the couple continue this until they're older and "sexual activity declines". How else can they say, 'they have sex!'? Call 'em bi if you want. I find the fact that some males are so close to another male better compared to marriage than the drive by first date fertilization with the females. Dolphins =/= humans.

But, you can be in a gay relationship with someone and not have sex...what I meant is that the dolphins relationship with each other is permant (sp?), like they live together and have sex together, but their relationship with the female dolphin is only to reproduce offspring.

You said it, they mate and reproduce with the females. Think about that statement in human terms. That means heterosexual. In this case "mate" means the only sex they have in which their penis penetrates another dolphin. When human males have sex with only females that is called heterosexuality. Why do you see it any different with the dolphins? Their time with female is only temp. but the relationship with another male is long lived? Relationships dont = gay. Same gender sex act = gay!

What defines homosexuality? The answer is right within the word homo "sex" ual. The sex "act" with the same gender. However, as we saw in the video, when it comes time for dolphins to engage in the act of sex they seek out the females. Human men and women also often times form close lifelong relationships with other same gender people. This has always been so. But without the act of sex taking place this does not constitute homosexuality. In case you forgot, thats called friendship. Best friends
