"Edinburgh's Jason Robertson played bass for numerous jazz-funk bands before settling into the studio to focus on all things electronic. Settling on the Aqua Bassino moniker, he released his '96 debut EP, Swirl, on France's foremost electronic imprint, F Communications. Three more EPs followed (Deeper, Pools, and Waves) before Robertson released his '91 debut album, Beats 'n' Bobs. Skillfully blending elements of jazz, soul, and blues, the album features Scottish saxophonist Martin Kershaw, U.K. jazz singer of the year Niki King, and African diva Nahawa Doumbia, who has worked extensively with Frederic Galliano. "Baby C'Mon" was released as single in early '02 with remixes by deep house don Ron Trent and Detroit electro pioneer Soul Designer (Fabrice Lig). Five years ago I couldn't listen to anything lyrical bar Jamiroquai, and was adamant that my music-collection would never exceed the capacity of my (then 256Mb) mp3-player; now I enjoy Mozart, Dream Theater, Basement Jaxx, 2Pac and more besides, all in equal measure. My archive has ballooned accordingly, from less than 200 tracks to somewhere in the region of 8,000. Congratulations: you're eclectic. Don't question it; embrace it.
