dolphins can be aggressive but the beginning was probably more sexual play. the behavior when a dolphin "barks" is actually called jaw hopping, & it doesnt always lead to violence. a main form of communication is by biting each other with their teeth & no one really knows what it means, it could be play, discipline, affection, or dominance. the reason why the mother dolphin was able to fight off the others is because they have a matriarch society.
