Now the best rifle in the world is the XK11. Decades more advanced than the Type 89. Of course, the Type 89 is no match to the M16 ,K2 or G36. (But maybe better than the AK47) Government procurement price of Type 89 is almost as high as that of a semiautomatic assault weapon which is available for civillians in many countries. Japan should license manufacture the G36 or import 5.56mm AK variants.

As a whole,Type 89 is inferior to our K2. Of course, our new XK11 is decades ahead.Now,Korean rifles are the best and most advanced in the world. The Taiwanese T91 riflle is much better than Type 89.My favorite rifle would be G36/SL8,however.
