The significance of this piece is that it employed traditionally "female" roles that are under-appreciated- needlepoint, sewing, etc, right? Anyway, thanks for posting this. I can't wait to see it with my own eyes one day.

In day of factory clothing, sewing, needlepoint NOT appreciated, yet good! (wife just made blankets 4 kids w/their life's "been there, done that, got shirt" T's) In Israel's decline, good king (Josiah) (2Kings 23:7) commended for tearing down "quarters of male shrine prostitutes...and where women did WEAVING FOR ASHERAH" (Fertility goddess). My fear: Nothing new under sun in U.S.A.: worhipping creation (our privates) not God; murdering kids (standard partial b. abortion) thru lack of faith,...

Oh hush. Like every single creation in life didn't come from a woman's..."privates". I assume you mean her life-giving reproductive organs. There is nothing bad about cultures who reserve a special place in their prayer for a fertility goddess. And as for abortion, well, it isn't up to anybody but god to decide that a woman should give birth against her will. That is slavery, not Christianity. Or humane.

And what a wonderful role giving life. And how ironic that the enemy of mankind, the devil, has made it seem "empowering" for women to go to hypocritical (they're too "modern" to be "hypoCRATical") GUY surgeons to terminate that life because they have been told to feel no God or $ available to raise their children, modern-style feminists sayingthey must be fireMEN, soldiers, etc. This is a warping of original FEMINISM that knew the female role celebrates it, avoided abort., casual sex, etc.

Also, Judy Chicago used many other parts of traditionally "feminine" roles in society (as if biology would make one sex better at using dish-soap and a vacuum cleaner). She sculpted and painted all dishware. She also came up with revolving the idea of a piece of art around women in history. Women in art are mostly relegated to posing nude, or posing for male artists as anonymous models. The piece was meant to be a semi-satirical commentary of women's "roles", and how these "guests" defied them.

Thanks for pointing out satirical nature of piece, but I think you protest too much saying you are offended women are seen as mere parts, yet at great lenghth Dinner Party celebrates it with highbrow porn...and, Biblical-era societies that celebrated sex-goddesses, Asherah poles, etc., also majored in "sending children thru fire" to demonic "gods/esses" -child sacrifice-leading to judgement, dissolution of whole cultures. We today scald children with saline abortion or dismember. Very "Mod."
