B-36 taxi and engine run-up

My dad took me up into the cockpit of a B-36 when I was 3. Early 1956. He was an aircraft commander and put in about 2400 hrs in B-36's. It was an awesome experience for a three year old!

Are there any of this magnificent planes left that still can fly? The greatest bomber ever!

Only four relatively intact B-36s remain in existence. All are museum display aircraft with varying degrees of restoration. None are remotely close to airworthy, alas. The heavy use of magnesium in the Peacemaker has made even static restorations both expensive and difficult. Barring some extraordinarily rich, politically powerful and extremely dedicated enthusiast, the "last chance to see" this bird airborne was in 1959.

my dad was the rear gunner in the b36 and the b29 in the airforce the b29 stayed in the air force until the 1960s
