Australia Farewells Queen Elizabeth 2

Video Title : Australia Farewells Queen Elizabeth 2
Description : Australia Bids Farewell to Queen Elizabeth 2 Ocean Liner ANCHOR: Australia's bidding a fond farewell to the Queen Elizabeth 2. Donned as the world's most famous ocean liner, it is on a final rendezvous around the world. Our Sydney correspondent Richard Szabo has more. STORY: The sun rises on a cool and quiet Sunday morning, as Queen Elizabeth 2 arrives in Sydney. It's a farewell voyage for the beloved luxury ship, after 30 years to the day since her first visit to Sydney. QE2 is remembered for setting a standard for elegant cruising with lavish cabins, white-gloved service and graceful public space. As the ship nears and docks in Garden Island, people gathered take some snaps or do some laps. Others just prefer to drift up-close. [Romilla Goventer, spectator]: "It's absolutely beautiful and I am so excited and I wish I was on it. It signifies royalty, it's a dream to be on it and the people on it are really lucky." A ride on QE2 does not come for free, with some passengers paying as much as $180,000 for 106-day world trip. [Michael Lau, spectator]: "Yeah if I had the time I would try it, but I think it's worth it. This is a long journey but I think it provides good service to the passengers." [Romilla Goventer, spectator]: "I wish I would win the lotto." Despite her many years of service, QE2 is still the fastest merchant ship in operation. [Matthew Parr, tugboat enthusiast]: "It is a very interesting ship, because it has what we call Z propulsion systems on it. These Z propulsion engines only have one gear and they can rotate the unit 360 degrees all in one movement. So that makes the ship very maneuverable and they don't need as many tugboats on it." Although Queen Victoria, a new addition to the Cunard line of ships, has just been christened in Sydney -- this final trip doesn't mean the end for QE2. [Matthew Parr, tugboat enthusiast]: "Usually for a ship to be that old it usually goes to the scappers, but the QE2 has now been sold to Dubai and it is going to be very similar to the Queen Mary, which is in Longbeach, California. It is going to be a floating hotel and it is going to Dubai at the end of November this year." [Correspondant Richard Szabo]: "Like the two sisters, Queen Victoria celebrates the golden age of ocean travel, back in the days when traveling in style was more important than the destination. Comments :

I watched the QE2 sail from Southampton, her home port for the last time on November 11th. I saw her come in for the first time in 1967, 41 years later with much sadness, and many tears watched her embark on her final voyage. Like Concorde, another British Treasure and Icon is lost.
