I think the crash speed in this German ADAC test is approx. 50 km/h (30 miles/h).

The only problem with the beetle though, is that the gas tank is in the front which will definitely start to leak!
yes but this wasn't a flat wall! It was a so called deformable object. (or so, I only know the dutch word for it.)

Yeah, people seem to forget that the Beetle was designed just before WWII. I can't think of anything designed in the 30's that'd do well in a test like that, nothing that wasn't used to annex Europe anyway...

I dunno, look at that video again, and the front of the beetle kinda acts like a crumple zone, the passenger compartment hadly gets damaged, ok driver and front passenger probably get broken legs, but in the Golf the a pillar folds in, and the drivers compartment is totally crushed, front passengers are dead. However having a rear engined car dose tend to cause more damage to the passenger commpartment,they had to seriously reinfroce the smart car fot this reason making it heavier than intended.
