of all things of WWII i dont understand two things . 1: VF squadrons. 2 The memphis belle. is it a single famous B-17 or a B-17 variant?

the memphis belle is a modified b-17e.not thae true b-17f.its called the b-17f simply because the first 300 modified b-17(memphis belle is one) called it a b-17f to keep track of it easly for boing.does that answer your question?
