This is perhaps one of the saddest songs I've heard in my entire life. I wonder how Donna Murphy could sing it day after day. That is acting at its core.

donna murphy is the shit!
this is one of the best musical songs ever.!!
This tears my heart right out. Donna's performance is so complete. Lupone does well but it lacks humility. I guess Lupone is larger than life and its difficult to take her in as this frail a character.
Yeah, Patti's is too brash and dramatic. You can tell she's performing while DOnna becomes Fosca.
I have to disagree. I saw a lot of humility in LuPone's Fosca. Donna Murphy will ALWAYS be the supreme Fosca, but it was ONLY LuPone who made me want to cry during "Loving You". I just heard that woe in her voice and she just opened Fosca's soul for our viewing, in a unique way.
I bet if LuPone originated the role and Murphy did the concert, then people would say that LuPone was the uber Fosca.
OMG!! What a mournful timbre in her voice. I agree, Patti who?
Patti Lupone is an extremely talented performer with a very unique voice and presence, but in terms of Fosca, there is just no question that Donna Murphy gives the more riveting performance. Absolutely incredible. No comparison.
I agree. I saw Lupone's Fosca first and liked it, but when I saw Murphy's I was completely blown away.
I think that if you have never seen the show with Donna, then Patti is fantastic as well. I agree, Donna's performance is incomparable but Patti also did an amazing job.
