Yes, they asked me to design and fold the dragon after I returned; it took about two days of solid folding, and it looked pretty much just like that. The one I folded was actually brown; they changed the color in the process of animating it.

I know the person who made all the paper origami in the video. I don't remember how long it took for the two or three people to make everything, but it was cool! The store that did the origami by the way is Papertree in San Francisco's Japantown

Having just seen a segment about this commercial and it's creator on CBS's Sunday Morning, I was compelled to find it online. For expanded and more accurate information, I'd suggest you visit langorigami using the usual url.

I actually worked on this commercial. I don't know about this "Papertree" store but most of this stuff in there I can tell you was made in a small shop in North Hollywood(at least all the origami that's not CG) Mr. Origami (Robert J. Lang) himself was there for a short time working with one other lady folding animals and I think stars. I mostly worked on all the trees with two other people so I could tell you what's fake and what's real origami in the commercial.

Ms. Mihara was the other origami artist working on the commercial with Mr. Lange. She is the owner of the Paper Tree in San Francisco.

yeah.. the ones on the road with the homes: big round ones? I worked on the forest.. witch really wasn't origami.

Actually, the trees were origami -- but they were "composite" origami, meaning made from multiple sheets (each branch a separate sheet). Composite origami was much more common before about the 1980s, but it still has its uses (especially when the director says, "I want to be able to film between the branches." Linda Mihara (co-owner of Paper Tree) and I worked for about 3 weeks total, with an extremely talented team of model-makers. Everything started as origami, but there was some CG help.

hey........ is this Mr. Origami? sire looks like it: "origamilang"? LOL

Yup, this is me. Hey, I show pictures of you tree-folders when I show my slide slow of the "making of"! As I recall, the tree team folded well over a hundred trees (a thousand folded bits), right?

yeah... we all went out and got tree-tattoos after that one, hahaha just kidding ;-) so... is that red dragon "foldable"?.. doesn't look like it, but judging from your work, I wouldn't be surprised.
