2008 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 vs. 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR

Video Title : 2008 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 vs. 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR
Description : FIND OUT WHO WINDS, ZO6 OR GT500KR: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/Comparos/articleId=131034 Chevrolet Corvette ZO6 @ the Track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JoSB5_PF0Y Camaro Fights Mustang and Challenger: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=as2erdrkQbI 2010 Chevrolet Camaro 2LT V6 Full Test: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ziISB6n_5do Ford Shelby GT500 v Hennessey Camaro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwCFIk0xH_s Hennessey HPE550 Supercharged Chevy Camaro SS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNcZeqG082A We're looking at the 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR and 2008 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, but we're imagining a '68 Shelby GT500KR staging next to a Corvette with one of the 427-cubic-inch V8s on the Connecting Highway in Queens, New York, probably sometime during the Nixon administration. We don't know how the cars are tuned or which driver has the better hole-shot technique, but we're calling our street race in favor of the Vette. You see, there's no historical basis for a close Corvette-Mustang rivalry. A Corvette of any year is a little too fast and smart to be street racing ratty muscle cars. It's a real sports car, the kind of car that's still fun when you start going around corners. But maybe it's a different story with this 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR and 2008 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Each of these rear-wheel-drive coupes has a V8 rated for more than 500 horsepower at the flywheel. And with the release of the limited-edition 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR, Ford has moved in on Chevrolet's price territory. The GT500KR leaves the Ford factory as a $46,730 GT500 coupe and is shipped as a rolling chassis to Carroll Shelby's facility near the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Nevada. By the time the KR cruises out of Shelby's shop, it's an $82,395 Mustang. As such, the King-of-the-Road Mustang must now contend with this $76,920 2008 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. And though the Z06 is a few horsepower shy of the upcoming ZR1, it's not an easy mark. The GT500KR will have to play like a sports car just to keep up.

nice nice nice
Whats the fascination with the Mustang, it looks ok I guess if you like that look, But except in a straight line the car is just dumb, Even in 2008 they will not make a mustang that can actually handle properly, Whats the deal? Why would someone pay that much for an american car with a plastic interior?
Even though the engines are producing around the same HP, there is still no comparison. the vette will win out.
Im a ford fan but the zo6 is a beast, street raced against a lambo the zo6 kicked ass
agreed, you dont buy a shelby kr cause you are looking for track time, its just badass.
The Corvette ZR1 has attained super car status. With a stock engine capable of reaching 205mph, it has entered that category. Right about 205 the governor kicks in though, so it could go a little bit faster ; )
the KR is weak sauce. the super snake is where its at
@tanker99 look at the price tag. You SHOULD get what you pay for. If the Vette is "now an exotic car", what is the Shelby GT 500 KR?! It costs more than the Z06.......... $6K more to be exact. It's 1.1 seconds slower in the 1/4 mile and 1.3 seconds slower from 0-60mph! That's pitiful for the money they expect you to lay down for it. Does the blower sound awesome?... Yes! Should these 2 cars be in different categories?... No! The Vette is much more car for the money. Ford flubbed up!!!!!
"These tires are as close as you can get to a race car tire," said Eric Zinkosky, SVT technical specialist. "We have a tire that's way more capable, with better grip, is firmer and more race-oriented. From there, we tuned the chassis around it. The tires told us what we had to do.
"That led us down a road to the new tire. It's instantly recognizable with an all-new tread pattern and construction." The new ultra-high-performance compound is made of a proprietary blend of race-derived carbon black and high-stiffness polymers and resins that help deliver enhanced wet and dry handling performance on both the road and track. Asymmetrical, directional tread designs with massive tread blocks on the outboard side of the tire help enhance dry cornering grip.
SVT engineers worked directly with Goodyear to develop the new compound, and it's only available on the 2011 Shelby GT500. The tire is unidirectional, corner-specific - meaning the directional tread must match its specific location. "We wanted to couple the improved weight distribution and the improved handling of the vehicle with the new tire, and with that offer the customer one of the most advanced summer tires from a manufacturer," said Jamal Hameedi, SVT chief nameplate engineer.

This was a dumb test, but I loved watching. There is a reason that there is no historical competition between mustangs and corvettes. They are built for different purposes, and your "similarities" were lackluster!
This just shows you the vette is near super car status, the mustang no matter how much hp is still just a basic sports car Theres no comparison
wow buy a mustang you get a truck also that explains the price tag.
sc is the only way a ford can make power ford still sucks
what a riff of for an engine that big only produce 500 hp on that junk vette and that other junk mustang still using a truck rear end ang suspension. these cars are only made and fast in straight line period.
@tanker99 they did do a comparison with the gt 500 and the ss 2010, camaro had 100 less hp and ran .1 sec under, the vette has i'm guessing 100 over the gt500 and it lost, so theres been two unfair matches where a close time with 100 less and stomped with 100 more, and the better match would be the corvette vs super snake, i hate ford but the snake is the performance mustang, not the gt, all in all, FORD SUCKS
my firechicken could outgun that ford junk
That is comparitively narrow for what the Shelby needs. I run 245s front and 275s rear on my S52 Z3M and that's roughly 800lbs lighter.
I'd still take the Mustang without a doubt. Corvettes are great, but theyre not even muscle cars anymore. Shelby/Ford have stuck to their roots and kept the Mustang a true muscle car, and even that, it wasn't THAT far off of the exotic sportcar that the Corvette has now turned into. I love em both, honestly, but its not the fairest match, and I still find the Mustang to give the 'vette a run for its money.
ok so you rather have a kr than a z06 but you would like to see how a "gt" stands up to a zr1 plzzzzzzzzz
CORVETTE OWNSSSSSSSSS
to all over weight its easy chevy vette uses fiberglass as opposed to ford currently still using recycled coffee cans ,also vette fuel injected ,stang fuel injected and supercharged and still lost ...decades of battle but gm always prevails
