yes my opinion is very interesting...because its based on EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE...and i make money doing so...TOM dealt in advertising...he knows it...thats one of the main reasons he isnt creating a major house for himself...he doesnt have the ability and will NOT gamble with his OWN money to do so...nor is anyone asking him to do anything with THEM backing him...smile think about it he has an excellent track record..but..a designer...no...
So working as a photographer and dancer qualifies you to judge not only the quality of the clothes (which was actually quite high, especially towards the end of his tenure) but also what women need to wear....that's interesting.
The way I see it, advertiseing gets you to notice a product and want to have it, but once you're in that dressing room, if those clothes don't look and feel good you're not buying them, no matter how compelling the ads are.
I agree to what both of you are saying. He is great designer that made label desirable and profitable but compare to Nicholas and Pilati who put amazing craftsmanship with technique. They do excellent work. Tom didn't show that until his last show for Gucci. like Micheal designs for real women but at a merchandiser point of view not designer techncial side like Klein, Karan, or Prada or Sander. I would to see a young designer that has both qualities maybe (Nicholas can do it or someone new)
smile ..i work in fashion...as a fashion photographer photojournalist...before that i was a dancer choreographer in music videos and commercials...for over 20 years..i have turned DOWN people YOU would KILL to see in 3D...such is the courage of my CONVICTIONS..i operate in TRUTH..not JEALOUSY...i know ADVERTISING and thats what TOM does..let those with eyes SEE...all the best to you..

I like his comments about the need for beauty. Where did they learn such wisdom? Not even the Dalai Lama can give such a quotable quotes...
its all VISUAL...he does not address the REAL needs of women nor has he REALLY contributed to the other aspect of fashion..I.E. haute couture...his tenure was all about making the label DESIRABLE...thats NOT FASHION...THATS ADVERTISING..
