Aircraft Mishap Montage 8

Video Title : Aircraft Mishap Montage 8
Description : P-80 starts on fire, video will keep revisiting this plane as it burns. Short carrier landing. C-2 Greyhound hammerheads after catapult launch. Large passenger plane gear test? F-16 belly landing; note how the pilot is so quick egressing and the emergency crew is so quick to respond, the rescue crew comes close to hitting the pilot. It would be ironic to survive an aircraft mishap and to be run over by the rescue crew. F/A-18 Hornet lands hard, damages gear, FOD to engine. F-14 misses wire, but hits (clips) an A-7 wing tip. Ejection test. C-2 Greyhound wipes out. F-4 in distress...boom? S-3 Viking lands damages gear, misses wire, crew ejects, and then the plane flies off without a crew. For some reason, the pilot did not eject and managed to fly the jet back around to a safe landing in the barricade,on the Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71). Good subject; poor video quality. Most of the films were shot using old-fashioned equipment, sometimes over exposed and washed out, under great vibration. The film and tapes were not that good quality when I got them and over the decades age and EM has deteriorated them some, and some quality was lost digitizing the recordings. This real thing, not Hollyweird. Most of the montage footage I posted is available, that has been better stored and has been enhanced and edited using high-end professional equipment and a lot of time. They have done an excellent job in restoring much of the footage The footage is in different order and has different music, however it has much of the same footage. There is a digital preview available at the link. I am not affiliated with the web site. http://rareaviation.com/store/catalog/product_3353_Breathtaking_Military_Crash_Videos_cat_1032.html

wat is COD

l33wan: I'm not a navy guy, but I assume he means, Carrier Onboard Delivery

Assigned pilot refused the flight as unsafe. Transporting a tactical generator. Hotshot (higher ranking) pilot said he could do it. Generator broke from cargo moorings on CAT shot. Loadmaster and backenders probably dead in first three seconds. Generator came forward to get the pilots after it cartwheeled. No survivors.

The COD crash was the result of improperly secured freight. It broke free from the launch shock, slid back creating an imbalance. The plane stalled and fell into the sea. Am told this is the only COD fatality in over 30 yrs.

The F-14 was to far right and ht the nose of the A-6 and the A-7, took 7 feet off the right wing and almost got airborne again.

The accident happened in 1989 onboard the USS John F Kennedy Pilot and NFO ejected safely. We also lost and S-3B on cat shot on that det, only the Senso made it out on that one due to right wing roll off.

The Navy clipped the roll channels on all S-3 Automatic Flight Control Systems after the uncommanded right roll off the cat shot incident. The PLAT video showed the pilot with full left roll commanded (spoilers as well as ailerons) despite the aircraft rolling hard right. We never did learn if a spurious AFCS signal was the cause of this and another similar incident.

I was V-4 Div aboard the Bonhomme Richard (CVA-31). I watched an F-8 ramp strike from the 02 level. Hell of a mess..it killed the Pilot and a Yellow Shirt. There is another vid on YouTube that shows an F-8 dunking after a bad Cat Shot..I was on deck for that one too. Carrier air ops can be dramatic.

i agree, it would be ironic to survive a nasty landing like that f-16 only to get hit by a rescue truck.

I saw that, and I thought it was an A-6.....but whatever it was, it was damned embarrassing!!!!
