Marilyn is married to Robert Jarvik MD, the inventor of the Jarvik 7 and Jarvik 2000 artificial hearts. They have two children, Mary and Dennis, both of whom also work at Jarvik Heart. All reside in Manhattan within a few blocks of each other, along with Mary's husband David and their two young daughters Valerie and Michelle.

This interview could have been great but the interviewer is soooo bad. He keeps interrupting Marylin and he is not able to make his points in a "straight" way.

I disagree with you.
I don't disagree with her position that Shakespeare shouldn't be forced on high school students (or on anyone!). As an adolescent and as a child, I saw many great films which I couldn't appreciate. My ability to appreciate them could have been destroyed either by having a miserable time watching them or by avoiding seeing them again thinking I had already seen them. Shakespeare and other fine literature is analogous to those great films.
Education isn't knowledge exactly. Good education also involves improving and expanding thinking.
Yes, they are different. I never equated the two. Being awake and being intelligent are very different, as well. If you're asleep, you won't do very well on an IQ test or at any intellectual feat, even if you are extremely intelligent while awake. Being uneducated and being asleep are similar in this way. (And yes, I know that being asleep and being uneducated are different!)

Intelligence may be mostly biological. Most people are very bright. Many people are influenced by the "superhero" portrayal of great intellectuals and miss the insecurity, ignorance, normalcy, and humanity of those intellectuals.
Good (self-)education can bring intelligence to full force. If Einstein were born in 20,000 BC, he wouldn't have devised his relativity theories and his genius may have never matured. Without education, even the most naturally intelligent people are just "cavemen".
marilyn is probably the most intelligent woman on Earth, accordind to IQ, but there is a slightly difference between Iq intelligence and geniality. Albert einstein had 160 in IQ but....
